1. What is a UN?
ONU refers to optical network unit. It is the optical terminal device of optical fiber access network, which provides users with multiple service interfaces. The network side of the ONU is the optical interface. As for the user side, this is the electrical interface. Therefore, the ONU can transmit optical signals into electrical signals and vice versa. In addition, it is capable of converting voice signals from D/A and A/D, reusing, processing signals and managing maintenance.
UN Features:
1. Triple Play Service: Provision of data, IPTV (interactive network television), VOIP (using IAD, Integrated Access Device) and other services.
2. Receiving broadcast data sent by the OLT.
3. Collect and cache Ethernet data that needs to be sent by users and send the data to the OLT according to the allocated sending window.
4. Offer abundant remote management capabilities supported by OAM.
2. Where is the UN in FTTx?
According to different ONU positions, the access methods of FTTx with LAN can be divided into FTTC, FTTB, FTTH, etc.
– FTTC (Fiber To The Curb): The ONU is placed in the central office of the community.
– FTTB (Fiber To The Building): The ONU is placed in the junction box in the corridor.
– FTTN (fiber-to-the-node): The ONU is at the access point.
– FTTH (Fiber To The Home): The ONU is located in the home of family users.
3. How many types of ELFCAM ONU routers are there?
According to the different applicable standards and publishers, there are three types of ELFCAM ONU routers: EPON ONU and GPON ONU, xPON. Depending on different functions and services, all types of ONU devices are provided to meet user demands.
