Is 5G better than 4G?

The EPON OLT is a device serving as the endpoint for the service provider in a passive optical network. In other words, the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) manages the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON). This technology offers multiple services thanks to its point-to-multipoint passive optical transmission.

1. Vitesse

The most intuitive feature of 5G networks is very high speed. For example, if 4G allows users to communicate between neighbors, 5G allows them to communicate face-to-face. The most obvious difference is that on 4G it can take several minutes to download a large file, whereas on 5G it only takes a second or two.

This is because 5G communications has broken through one of the bottlenecks of infinite transmission, by accelerating the transmission of information over the air through the use of high-frequency radio waves. In the 5G era, when two users of the same base station communicate with each other, their communication data is directly transferred from one mobile phone to another instead of being transmitted by the base station. This not only significantly saves air resources, but also speeds up information transmission.

2. base station

Nowadays, communication depends mainly on electromagnetic waves. To improve the propagation speed of electromagnetic waves, we need to increase the frequency of electromagnetic waves. But in practice, the higher the frequency, the greater the loss in the propagation path. That is, the higher the requirement of the base station transmitting the signal, the higher the requirement of the technology.

4G networks use large base stations, which are expensive to build and take up a lot of space. If such a base station is used, 5G will have many more base stations than 4G to cover the same area, and building them will cost a lot of money. Therefore, to solve the financial problem, 5G should use micro base stations, which cover a small area, are small in size, and are much cheaper.

Since the requirements for base stations in the 4G era are not high, there is no need to use micro base stations. However, in the 5G era, due to the high-frequency electromagnetic wave in large loss propagation, micro base station technology has gradually developed. So what are the advantages of VAT base stations?

The micro base station can significantly reduce the cost of 5G coverage. Compared with a large base station, the construction cost of a small base station is lower, and it can be integrated into a mobile station that can be transferred when needed, which is more suitable for the future world some information. Of course, the technical requirements of the micro base station are also much higher.

3. MIMO

In 4G networks, each base station basically uses up to eight wires. And because 5G uses high-frequency radio waves, it will require much smaller wires.

In addition, to improve signal strength, 5G base stations use MIMO technology to take advantage of the characteristics of small antennas, in which hundreds of antennas are arranged in an array. At the same time, high signal intensity can be achieved by using certain technical processing and reasonable arrangements of these antennas.

Likewise, the size of the antenna in a user's phone will be significantly reduced. While this helps reduce space occupation and improve portability, it also sets a higher standard for manufacturers' production technology.
