What is an OLT (Optical Line Terminal): Characteristics, application
1. What is OLT?
The full form of OLT is optical line terminal, which is a device used to connect optical fiber and transfer signals. It makes a significant difference in PON (passive optical network).
Functions:
1. On the one hand, the OLT connects to the coverage level switch with the cable and transfers optical signals. On the other hand, it connects to the optical splitter on customer terminals with optical fiber.
2. Control, manage and measure the distance between customer end devices, such as ONU.
3. OLT is one of the devices on the service nodes in the access network. It completes access to the service by connecting with the corresponding devices of the service nodes via the SNI port.
2. OLT Components
OLT generally consists of:
1. A control card. Normally, there are two cards, the primary and the secondary, on an OLT.
2. DC power supply board
3. Ventilation unit. It is mainly used for heat dissipation and environmental monitoring.

3. Types of ELFCAM OLT
ELFCAM OLT includes GPON and EPON OLTs. There are 4-port GPON OLTs, as well as 8/16-port GPON OLTs. The EPON OLT is also divided into 4/8/16 ports. These are compact designs, which can be applied in various scenarios. It has carrier-grade security protection and supports RIP and SPF dynamic routing protocols, which ensures a secure network. It allows you to manage many services such as Internet access, WiFi configuration, VoIP, CATV, security management, etc.
3. Application of OLT
The OLT device coordinates with different types of ONUs to realize all kinds of access networks such as FTTC, FTTH, FTTO, FTTM, etc. Depending on different services, customer requirements and regions, there are different deployment strategies.
