What is the difference between 2,4GHz and 5GHz?

What is the difference between 2,4GHz and 5GHz?

1. What is 2.4GHz?

2,4 GHz is an open source wireless transmission technology. This is one of the operating frequencies. For example, Bluetooth works on this operating frequency. It can cover larger areas and is more resistant to interference. It is applied in domestic and commercial areas.

Pros and cons

Advantage:

1. Wide range of applications

2.4GHz is a global operating frequency. Its related products can be used worldwide. Wireless products can adopt this frequency.

2. High bandwidth

The total bandwidth is better than other ISM frequencies, which improves data transmission rate, enables two-way transmission, makes it very resistant to interference and extensive transmission.

3. Low power consumption

The antenna and the 2,3 GHz wireless router itself are small, which centralizes the chips and reduces power consumption.

Cons:

1. Slow speed

2.4GHz technology only has 14 signal channels. The use of each channel depends on local regulations. Not all regions or countries allow these 14 channels. So the 2,4 GHz band is more crowded and the speed is slow when multiple devices connect to it.

2. Few connectable devices and ease of interference

The number of devices that can connect to the 2,4 GHz signal router is limited. Additionally, the 2,4 GHz band is still congested by too many connections. Therefore, the network is easy to disconnect and interfere.

2. What is 5GHz?

5GHz is the most popular with consumers and suppliers in the market. It mainly adopts technologies like wireless ATM and SDR (Software Defined Radio). The wireless ATM can achieve end-to-end connection, which provides guaranteed services like ABR and VBR.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

1. Fast, interference and device connection

High frequency can transmit data faster than the lower frequency. What makes 5GHz have a high data transmission rate is the broad bandwidth and 24 signal channels. It's not as crowded as 2.4GHz and there are fewer devices to connect. So it's faster, has less interference and is more stable than the 2.4GHz.

2. Fit for high-broadband activities.

The high frequency of 5GHz allows you to download or upload large files, play streaming videos and games at faster speed.

Cons:

1. Small area coverage

As we all know, the coverage areas of wireless signals will be smaller with the increase of operating frequency because the high frequency can't pass through solidities like wall or floor.

2. More expensive

With more and more devices adopting 5GHz, the cost of 5GHz components and devices is reducing. However, it's still more expensive in comparison with 2.4GHz.
