FTTH Network: GEPON Outdoor Reverse PoE ONU Application
The EPON OLT is a device serving as the endpoint for the service provider in a passive optical network. In other words, the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) manages the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON). This technology offers multiple services thanks to its point-to-multipoint passive optical transmission.
For this problem, ELFCAM developed outdoor reverse PoE ONU which can access power with PSE in terminal users' homes.
Notes:
PoE (Power over Ethernet) is a technology that can not only transmit data signals for certain IP-based terminals such as VOIP phones, wireless APs and IP cameras, but also power these devices with AC power . PoE is also called POL (Power over LAN) or Active Ethernet.
1. Why choose reverse PoE ONU for outdoor?
The main problems that ONU PoE (PD) can solve:
① Difficulty accessing electricity in corridors and outdoors.
② Users pay for electricity, saving operators' costs.
2. Outdoor Reverse PoE ONU Application
Here is the ELFCAM application of the V280xPD series outdoor reverse PoE ONU.
As we can see, the OLT connects upstream to the core network or switch and downstream to the optical splitter. As the frame shows, three branches come out of the splitter, which means 3 applications with different ONT/ONU placed in different locations. The OLT, passive optical splitter, and ONU constitute the passive optical network (PON).
1. If the splitter connects to the general ONT installed at user's house, it can normally provide Triple Play services including CATV, VoIP and Internet service when all conditions are perfect. This application is also called FTTH (Fiber to the Home).
2. When there is no AC power in the corridors of the house or buildings, you can install the ELFCAM Outdoor Reverse PoE ONU (V2810E-4PD/V2810G-4PD) in the corridors uplinked with the splitter.
3. Likewise, if there is no power supply outside when creating the fiber access network, the Outdoor Reverse PoE ONU (V2808PD-ZE/V2808PD-ZG) can be installed outside, like a telegraph pole on the road.
4. The ONU is powered by the PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) deployed in users' homes/buildings.
