What is an EPON OLT (GEPON): Functions, types, specifications

The EPON OLT is a device serving as the endpoint for the service provider in a passive optical network. In other words, the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) manages the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON). This technology offers multiple services thanks to its point-to-multipoint passive optical transmission.

Functions of the EPON OLT:

1. Convert between the electrical signals used by the service provider's equipment and the signals from the passive optical fiber components used by the passive optical network.

2. Coordinate multiplexing between conversion devices at the other end of this network, called optical network terminals (ONTs) or optical network units (ONUs).
