Introduction of HGU Router and Comparison with SFU

The EPON OLT is a device serving as the endpoint for the service provider in a passive optical network. In other words, the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) manages the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON). This technology offers multiple services thanks to its point-to-multipoint passive optical transmission.

1. What is HGU router?

The ONU can be divided into SFU (Single Family Unit), HGU (Home Gateway Unit) and SBU (Single Business Unit). So, HGU is a kind of UN.

HGU belongs to home gateway devices, which facilitate family networking. It supports routing and NAT, which belong to layer 3 devices. It is capable of realizing broadband connection and connecting computers or mobile terminals to the network without connection. HGU is suitable for large-scale operations and management. Usually the router itself brings WiFi and USB.

2. What is the difference between HGU and SFU?

From the above content, we can know that SFU also belongs to ONU. But SFU is a bridge unit and is mainly used by individual families. It only supports broadband access terminals. There are one or four Ethernet interfaces, providing Ethernet/IP, VoIP and CATV service. It is mainly applied in FTTH.

In terms of establishment, the SFU cannot perform coupling between different manufacturers. The ONU can only connect to OLTs from the same manufacturers. However, the HGU can achieve the coupling without incompatibility.

The HGU, the Home Gateway ONU, supports Layer 3 routing, which makes it easy to create networks and support communication between multiple users. As for SFU, it is equivalent to a Layer 2 switch and only allows a single user to access the Internet.

3. Introduction of V-SOL HGU Router

HG325ACT: 4GE+1POTS+WiFi 5+USB 3.0+CATV HGU

This router offers multiple services. There are 4 GE ports, which provide a stable and high-speed connection for all internet devices. xPON port includes EPON PX20+ and GPON Class B+. The USB3.0 port is used for storage and printer. Additionally, WiFi speed can reach up to 1,167 Gbps. The HGU supports mesh networks with one-click WiFi adaptation. So, you can use this HGU device with a V-SOL mesh router such as the HG3610ACM to set up a WiFi mesh network in your home.

 HG325AX: 4GE+1POTS+1USB3.0+WiFi 6 HGU

This is a new product scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2022. What makes it different from other V-SOL HGU devices is that it supports WiFi 6, including 802.11a standards /n/ac/ax 5GHz and 802.11g/b/n/ax 2.4GHz. WiFi encryption is also enabled. It also supports OFDMA, MU-MIMO, DynamicQoS and 1024-QAM.

V-SOL develops a series of HGU routers. Here we will get acquainted with 3 representative products. All HGUs support dual modes involving GPON and EPON.

● HG322G:1GE+1POTS HGU

The device supports dual modes involving both EPON and GPON. There are various interfaces to meet different service requests. There is an xPON port, a Gigabit LAN port, an FXS port for VoIP service, a reset button, and a power port. It can be used in all kinds of scenarios such as school, family and business.

Conclusion

Overall, you need to choose the best one based on your demand and application whether it is HGU or SFU. If you choose HGU, there are also many kinds. You can comment below to let us know which product you are interested in or need!
