Does mesh WiFi make sense in your home?

The EPON OLT is a device serving as the endpoint for the service provider in a passive optical network. In other words, the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) manages the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON). This technology offers multiple services thanks to its point-to-multipoint passive optical transmission.

How would you deal with this problem if you were Andrew? Generally, a WiFi booster or WiFi extender can help solve the problem. However, the speed will be low because data gets lost more as the distance increases. On the other hand, mesh WiFi network can bring you a better experience.

1. How does a mesh WiFi system work?

With mesh WiFi, you will place several small connected devices around the house. Instead of having a central routing hub connecting WiFi signals over radio waves to the modem, you will have numerous access points (also known as satellites) capturing and rebroadcasting the routing signals you need for connectivity.

2. Benefits of Mesh WiFi Network

– Increased speed. Because all access points broadcast the same signal, you can reduce the lag between multiple, simultaneous connectivity requests.

– Better coverage. Typical mesh Wi-Fi routers claim to cover 4 to 500 square feet.

- Easy to use. The typical mesh router system is automated and provides a mobile app for easy management, even remotely.

– Integration with other smart home devices such as Alexa is often a feature.

– Parental controls are available with some brands of these router systems.

3. Secure your WiFi network

Just like with traditional Wi-Fi, the security of your Mesh Wi-Fi will depend on the security of your routers. That means :

① Change the device's administrative credentials and password from their default settings;

② Configure devices to automatically check and install security patch updates;

③ Change the network name to something unique, not something that immediately identifies the network as yours (for example, if you live at 804 Water Wheel, don't call your network 804 Water);

④Set up a guest Wi-Fi network for visitors to connect instead of providing every guest in your home with your access credentials.
