What is simplex or duplex fiber optic cable?

Fiber optic patch cords can be divided into simplex and duplex according to the interface operation mode. What is simplex and duplex? Simplex and duplex are two modes of communication channels in telecommunications networks and computer networks. Simplex and duplex patch cords may also be called simplex and duplex (single-core and dual-core).

What is simplex?
Simplex is data transmission in one direction only. The two ends of the communication, one being the transmitter and the other the receiver, are not reversible. An example is a radio station, which generally only sends signals to the public and does not receive signals from the public.

What is duplex?

Duplex is also divided into half-duplex and full-duplex. Half-duplex is the ability to transmit data in both directions on the signal carrier, but not simultaneously. During the communication process, the transmitter and receiver at both ends of the communication system can change direction through a receive/transmit switch to realize single direction transmission, and it can also be said that half-duplex mode is a switchable direction of simplex communication. A walkie talkie, for example, can send a conversation to the other party when you press the talk button and the other party can also hear it, but the other party cannot talk to you at the same time.

Full duplex is the ability to transmit data in both directions of the signal carrier simultaneously in both directions, receiving data while sending data, requiring independent receiving and transmitting capabilities at both the sending end and the receiving end. Full duplex mode can also be thought of as simplex communication which allows simultaneous transmission in both directions. It's like a phone call, where both parties can talk at the same time using two-way instant transmission technology. A duplex patch cable can consist of two simplex patch cables specially designed to form a single tube with two cores, as in the case of Uniboot patch cables.
