National Odeon Theater – PoE switching solution with over 100 endpoints

National Odeon Theater - PoE switching solution with over 100 endpoints

Context

The Théâtre national de l'Odéon had a total of 8 small audiovisual control rooms made up of different devices whose quantity varied from 4 to 28. A solution was needed to manage the devices submitted to the control rooms, as well as the control room computer science where data from the 8 small control rooms would be consolidated. Switches are required to power the devices in the control rooms. The port quantity must be greater than the sum of the devices. The room composed of 25 or more users requires a POE + power supply of 15w per user. Each small control room must be able to communicate with each other in order to be able to initiate synchronized actions (by UDP). All these small control rooms must be connected to the IT control room.SolutionIn the IT control room, there is a 24-port ELFCAM PoE Fiber Optic Switch that connects 8 small control rooms via 1G optical transceivers and fiber optic cables. PoE switches in 8 small control rooms connect end devices, allowing each user to access the internet.

Challenge

Switches are required to power devices in control rooms. The port quantity must be greater than the sum of the devices. The room consisting of 25 or more users requires a POE + power supply of 15w per user.

Solution

The total power supplied by ELFCAM Switch fiber optic PoE16 is 550W, more than the 325W required by 25 users.

PoE switches connect downstream to end users and upstream, keeping the lowest latency.

The IT control room is located approximately 100m from the small control rooms. Optical fiber cables are adopted to ensure high quality transmission. The 1G uplink ports of PoE switches are connected to 1G optical interfaces via OM3 fiber optic cables.
